Section Title
OSI-CAN is an Operational Stress Injury/Post Traumatic Stress Support Initiative (PTSD).
Description
OSI-CAN targets a diverse demographic that includes, but is not limited to, former and serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Allied Armed Forces, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Additionally, their focus extends to frontline protectors such as municipal police services, CN police services, emergency medical services, fire protection services, wildland firefighters, hospital trauma personnel, nurses, healthcare workers, crown prosecutors, social workers, animal control officers, coroners, and Indigenous emergency management personnel. The organization also supports victim services personnel, emergency communications specialists, crisis management workers (including mobile crisis teams), corrections officers, volunteer first responders, conservation officers, tow truck drivers, and private sector first responders.
This broad target demographic was selected due to the common experiences shared by individuals in these roles, particularly in terms of exposure to traumatic incidents while performing their duties. OSI-CAN also recognizes the importance of supporting the spouses and significant others of those who are exposed to such trauma. A special emphasis is placed on volunteer first responders, who may face challenges in accessing appropriate support despite their critical roles in the community. The organization's mission is to provide tailored support to this diverse group, acknowledging their unique needs and experiences through their service to the country and community.
