Checking Canadian Immigration Representatives

By Immigrid Team ·

Restored and revised October 16, 2026. First published 2024-10-06 on Immigrid's former WordPress site. An authentic archived original was recovered. This edition removes outdated rules, unsupported promises and claims that Immigrid is an immigration agency. The original publication date is retained.

Verify the individual directly

IRCC directs people hiring a paid immigration or citizenship representative to check whether the person is authorized. Use the regulator links in the official guidance and verify the individual you intend to retain. An old directory listing, review, social-media profile or platform badge does not by itself establish current authorization.

Understand the engagement

Ask what service will be provided, who will do the work, how communication will be handled and what the fee covers. Read the proposed written agreement before committing. Keep receipts and a copy of the material prepared for you. Resolve unclear terms with the provider instead of relying on a broad promise about handling everything.

Watch for claims you cannot verify

IRCC warns that using a representative does not guarantee approval. Be cautious about promises of special access, instructions to give false information or requests to sign a form you cannot understand. If you need help understanding a document, arrange a translation or explanation before deciding what to sign.

Correcting the old directory context

Immigrid's former WordPress directory has been retired. This restored article does not endorse, certify or confirm the present status of any business that appeared there. Use the official authorization check and the relevant complaint or fraud-reporting channel when appropriate. For court proceedings, verify the separate representation rules of the court rather than assuming an immigration-service authorization covers every legal task.
