Treat admission and immigration as separate checks

A school offer is an important part of planning, but it does not establish that your immigration application will be approved. IRCC describes study permits as permission to study at designated learning institutions and directs applicants to its eligibility and application instructions. Begin there rather than assuming that every course, school or personal situation follows the same route.

Make two document lists

Keep the school's admission requirements in one list and the current IRCC document checklist in another. IRCC's study document page covers acceptance letters, identity, financial evidence and, where applicable, provincial or territorial attestation and Quebec documentation. Read its exceptions as well as the main headings. Ask the institution to clarify an admission issue; use the government instructions to check an immigration requirement.

Budget without relying on an old figure

Write down tuition, accommodation, travel and the amounts you still need to verify. Use the current proof-of-funds instructions rather than the figure in an older blog post. Keep the source and date beside each assumption so you can update the plan before submitting or paying for a service.

Check the plan after approval too

Before arranging travel or accepting paid work, read the conditions that apply to your authorization. Graduation, a job offer and a later residence application are separate events, so do not build a budget around an assumed future approval. This restoration removes the earlier blanket assurances about post-study opportunities and replaces them with an official starting point and a practical preparation method.
