At Peak Valley Counselling, maintaining your privacy and ensuring confidentiality is of utmost importance. All communications and records related to your service are securely kept confidential. Anything discussed during your sessions will remain private and will not be shared without your explicit consent. However, there are legal exceptions to confidentiality, which include:

Threat to Self or Others: If there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, they am legally obligated to disclose this information to ensure safety.
Abuse Disclosure: If you report abuse of a vulnerable individual, such as a child or an elderly person, they am required by law to report this.
Legal Subpoena: If subpoenaed by a court, they must provide the information requested.

Should there be a need to share information with a family member, friend, or outside agency, your signed consent will be obtained. If you request that they provide information to others, such as your family physician or insurance company, they will do so only with your written permission.

In the event they encounter each other in a public space, they will not acknowledge their professional relationship unless you do so first. The context of their relationship will remain confidential.

Client files are created from the date of your first session and are maintained for five years from the date of the last session. After this period, files are securely destroyed, following ethical guidelines.

If at any time you feel that their therapeutic relationship is not a good fit, you are encouraged to express this. they will assist in connecting you with other counselors who may better meet your needs. Similarly, if they believe they cannot provide the necessary care, they will help refer you to a more suitable counselor. Your well-being and comfort are paramount in the therapeutic process.
