Description
Sarah Hickinbottom practice is centered on working collaboratively with clients who face unexpected challenges, difficult transitions, or situations that require a change in direction and/or a re-imagination of identity.
The goal is to provide affordable and effective therapy in a supportive, non-pathologizing environment. Together, the focus is on helping clients to:
- Reconstruct meanings, daily patterns, and their sense of self in the face of uncertainty, loss, or injury/illness;
- Discover new possibilities by clarifying a vision for the life they want moving forward;
- Examine and redefine their relationship with emotions, ways of thinking, and patterns of behavior that make them feel stuck (e.g., depression, stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, relational styles, perfectionism, etc.);
- Develop insight into past and present situations to understand their own reactions and behaviors;
- Build the skills, abilities, confidence, and perspective needed to achieve their goals and maintain lasting change.
A variety of psychotherapeutic approaches are utilized, including narrative-constructivist, existential, emotion-focused therapy, solution-focused therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. However, the work with clients is always grounded in a deep belief in the importance of a strong, respectful therapeutic relationship and the need for every person to feel valued, heard, and understood.
