Nandi Deterville was born and raised on the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia. She pursued her higher education in law and international relations across various prestigious institutions. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Her legal studies took her to the United Kingdom, where she attended the College of Law of England & Wales and BPP Law School.

In July and August 2008, Nandi was called to the Bars of England & Wales and Saint Lucia, respectively. She began her legal career at a small general practice firm in Saint Lucia, where she gained valuable experience in various areas of law. Seeking broader opportunities, she relocated to Toronto and underwent requalification to practice law in Canada. In January 2017, she was officially called to the Ontario Bar, allowing her to provide legal services in this jurisdiction.
